A Tradition of Community

The Great Granville Picnic is a deeply rooted community tradition, first held in Granville as early as the 1880s. Over time, it became a gathering point for neighbors — a place to connect, celebrate, and enjoy summer together in the heart of the Village. Today, the Granville Community Foundation is honored to lead its revival, bringing this iconic event back to strengthen bonds across our town. Through this revival, we aim both to honor Granville’s heritage and to foster genuine community connections.

This Year’s Picnic: What to Expect

Date: 8/15/26

Time: TBD

Join us along North Plum Street and West Broadway, where streets will be closed and picnic tables set up in long lines. The Granville Community Foundation is leading 18 local organizations in bringing activities, support, and entertainment to the event.

  • Attendance: The picnic itself is free and open to all

  • Tables: Table reservations will be available in spring via the GRD website

  • Decor & Themes: Tables will be divided into ten thematic sections and participants who reserve will be encouraged to decorate — with a contest for the best design

  • Activities: Expect live music, games, and friendly contests (e.g., pie-eating, baking). Past picnics have featured baking contests where winners auctioned their goods to benefit the community

  • Food Options: We are partnering with local restaurants to offer curated picnic baskets for purchase, so attendees can enjoy the event without the hassle of packing a full meal. You may also bring your own picnic basket full of your favorite summertime treats

  • Sponsorship: Sponsorships are available through the Granville Recreation District.
