Welcome 2020 New Board Members!

The Granville Community Foundation is proud to announce its newest board members. Although they have been actively working for the Foundation since the beginning of 2020, the pandemic derailed our usual announcement! Please join us in welcoming John Begala, Rick Bauer, Brie King and Tom Martin to our Board. We are so pleased to have these talented individuals helping to support our Granville community through their work at the Foundation!

John Begala is a mostly retired executive, policy analyst, and strategist, who has served in a variety of leadership roles in both the public and nonprofit sectors.  Mr. Begala served as Executive Director of Cleveland, Ohio’s Center for Community Solutions from 1998 through 2004, and again from 2008 through 2014.  Prior to that, he served as a senior executive for Cleveland’s MetroHealth System, the University of Cincinnati Hospital, Greater Cincinnati Hospital Council, and Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities. He served three terms in the Ohio House of Representatives, and one as Councilman-at-Large in Kent, Ohio. He has been an adjunct professor for several Ohio universities, currently as a lecturer at The Ohio State University’s John Glenn College of Public Affairs. He and his wife Carole live in Granville with an assortment of pets, enjoying long walks, propagating bluebirds and Monarch butterflies, and enjoying the company of family and friends who live nearby.

Rick Bauer has lived in Central Ohio for his entire life.  He recently retired after over 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry, most recently overseeing the US business for a UK medical communications company.  After a very short retirement period, Rick partnered with his son and daughter to form CBD Health Collection, a firm that focuses on health and wellness using natural products. In addition to having oversight experience into all aspects of successful business growth and development, Rick has extensive experience in working with 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations as Executive Director and serving on respective Boards. Rick and his wife, Rosemarie, have 3 adult children. Two of those children and their families have also moved to Granville.

Brie King resides in Granville, Ohio with her husband and four children. Brie is an audit and assurance senior manager with Deloitte and Touche LLP and has over 15 years of public accounting experience in the consumer products and financial services industries. Brie serves on Deloitte and Touche LLP’s Women’s Initiative (“WIN”) committee in Columbus, part of the Diversity and Inclusion Council. Brie drives Deloitte’s strategy to recruit, develop, and promote a diverse workforce and foster an inclusive environment where leaders thrive. She has served as an Ellen Gabriel Fellow, which is a program stemming from Deloitte’s Women’s Initiative targeted at top performers who reflect qualities of intelligence, commitment, integrity, service and leadership. Brie is a team lead for Deloitte’s American Heart Association Team and is a volunteer at the New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day.

A native of Southeast Kentucky and a Denison alumnus, Tom Martin is retired from an unintentional career in Alumni and Development work, mainly at Denison, but also at Muskingum. He was also a small business owner in Granville for four years. Since moving to the village in 1971, he has been an active volunteer in Granville Rotary, First Presbyterian Church, Granville Historical Society, Vail Arts program as community advisor at Denison, United Way, Planned Parenthood, the Granville Library, the Denison Concert Choir for over fifty years, Advisor to the Junior Class Prom at Granville High School (because his daughter was president of her class), and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother for one year. He considers himself very fortunate to have lived in Granville and early on discovered that much of its quality comes from the commitment and talent of volunteers.

THANK YOU John, Rick, Brie and Tom for your dedication to our community and the Granville Community Foundation!
